iLECSYS Supports Tiggywinkles

We are delighted to announce that, from March 2023, iLECSYS will be supporting Tiggywinkles free wildlife hospital as part of our commitment to charitable work.

Based in Haddenham, Tiggywinkles is the world’s biggest and busiest wildlife hospital.

This specialist hospital was founded in 1978, in the back garden of Les and Sue Stocker and their son Colin. After finding an injured kestrel, they realised there was nowhere for the general public to take sick or injured wild animals. The Stockers began to help these poorly animals and rehabilitate wildlife with the help of a local vet.

Tiggywinkles has treated over 300,000 patients and on busy days, they have over 1600 patients to care for on site. This makes them the busiest wildlife hospital in the world. They care for sick, injured and orphaned animals 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

All kinds of British wildlife are treated at Tiggywinkles, from tiny field mice to huge roe deer and everything in between. Common visitors include hedgehogs, foxes and owls. All treatment is free.

Tiggywinkles is committed to educating the public about wildlife care, and runs courses as well as providing information online to help people understand the best way to help animals.

Alongside this, Tiggywinkles has a dedicated visitor centre which provides education and insight to members of the public. The visitor centre is home to the permanent animals who cannot be returned to the wild. For example, a blind hedgehog or a three-legged deer has a home-from-home at Tiggywinkles, where they can live their lives in safe, near-natural surroundings.

An increasing problem is the situation with grey squirrels. Recent government legislation has prohibited releasing these back into the wild after rehabilitation, and so Tiggywinkles now provides specialist advice about these adorable creatures.

Grace Tipson, CEO of iLECSYS, visited the Tiggywinkles site recently. A keen animal lover, she is delighted to be able to help save the lives of sick and injured wild animals.

Providing this safe haven, Tiggywinkles receives no government funding or lottery grants, and is dependent on charitable donations. iLECSYS are proud to support Tiggywinkles.
