STEGO Loop Heaters | Product Spotlight

This month we are putting the product spotlight onto STEGO loop heaters, a brand-new product in our heating, cooling and lighting category.

A loop heater is an innovative type of specialist heater used to maintain the temperature inside an enclosure. This ensures the components of your electrical project are kept at an optimal temperature for smooth running and to reduce the risk of component failure or other issues, and keeping the condensation out of your enclosure, protecting your components.

Loop heaters get their name because inside their enclosure, they are shaped like a loop, with one or two loops coming around to a central control, depending on which model you choose. STEGO have produced a range of loop heaters which boast resistance to physical shock and vibration, more efficient heat distribution, and a 50% faster connection speed compared to heaters with screw clamps.

As well as a futuristic design which maximises the amount of available heat output, the body of the new loop heater is a two-in-one heat sink and clamping mechanism. It is quicker and easier to install by design. If you’re wondering how it measures up, the width is the same or smaller than previous STEGO heaters, meaning that they will fit in the same space as your existing STEGO enclosure heaters if you’re thinking of replacing them.

With energy efficiency at the forefront of the impressive German design, the new STEGO loop heaters have gone head-to-head with their non-loop counterparts, and the results were fantastic.

During product tests by STEGO, they discovered their new range of loop heaters is 33% more efficient to run than their HG 140 model. In a test, both heaters were independently used to increase the temperature of a measuring chamber from 25 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius. The heating capacity of both heaters was 75 Watts. With the HG 140, this took 3 hours 10 minutes. With the new STEGO LP 165, this took 2 hours 9 mins. Also available is the LPS 164, which features a 300mm cable as standard.

This means that you will use only 66% of the energy if you buy a Loop heater instead of a HG 140 or similar model!

The other exciting thing about the product tests came from the thermal imaging, which showed the LP 165 loop heater gets hotter and uses the chimney effect to better advantage than the HG 140. This means the heat rises more efficiently, leading to smoother heat distribution. Through this advantage, the loop heater is able to reduce energy usage by one third, saving electricity, money and the environment.

These new loop heaters are suitable for applications in rail or mobile transport, as they meet vibration test standards, details of which can be found in the approvals for each different size of loop heater. This translates to smooth running that will work well for most projects. If wear and tear is likely, the LTS 064, LT 065 and LTF 065 series models are shock and vibration proof, giving you total peace of mind that these loop heaters won’t let you down.

These are available in five different series, between 10 and 150 Watts, meaning there is almost certainly a loop heater that fits your project.
